It’s official: American Pharoah’s next race will be the $1 million William Hill Haskell Invitational Aug. 2 at Monmouth Park on the Jersey Shore.

Steiner Sports Marketing will feature Victor Espinoza and his signed memorabilia July 27 at Manhattan’s Millennium Hotel.

“We want to do right by him, so he comes first," owner Ahmed Zayat, himself a Jersey Boy (by way of Teaneck), said. "He's told us he's happy. He's gained weight back. He's been paraded, literally, from coast to coast, and Bob (trainer Baffert) said we need to go back to work. I want to maintain my promise to the fans that if he's healthy he will continue to run, and that's what we're doing."

This is a race for 3-year-olds, meaning that AP will be going up against horses he’s already defeated. Meanwhile, plans are underway for a three-day “Pharoah Phan Phest” to be part of the big race.

If things go well at Monmouth, the Pharoah may race in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. That, however, will not be the only AP sighting in the New York metro area, so to speak. On July 27, his jockey, Victor Espinoza, will be signing memorabilia through Steiner Sports Marketing at the Millennium Hotel in Manhattan 6 to 9 p.m.
